West Coast Paintings both Land and Sea

Living on the west coast the natural beauty is all around me and it is no wonder that I am continually drawn to painting images of both what I see – and what I imagine.

Pictured above left is and acrylic painting 18”x36” on canvas called “Watching You Watching Me” and references the seals that liked to watch me while I was out in our boat. Pictured above right is a 14”x18” mixed media on canvas called “ Spirit Bear of the Canadian Rainforest”. I have not actually seen a Spirit Bear but have definitely had encounters with bears while walking my dogs in the forest near Woods Creek.

I was commissioned to do a painting for a customer’s ocean view bedroom. They lived right at the 50th Parallel and I used their view as a muse for the painting. Called “Orcas at the 50th” it is an acrylic on a 20”dia canvas. The Orca portal above right is the same size and medium and is called “Orcas with October Moon”. The view point of this painting is from the Big Rock south of the 50th Parallel and both paintings feature Quadra Island from different angles.

Orcastic is a mixed media on a 12”x36” canvas. This, as with all my canvas paintings has painted edges making it unnecessary to frame.

Dawn of the Orca is part of a series of paintings I did featuring the sunrise. Also a mixed media on a 12”x36” canvas, this image is more whimsical than any of my other Orca paintings. This painting is one of my most popular fine art magnets.

As an artist I find both my interior design projects and the articles that I write influence the subject matter and type of art that I do.
