We created two dog beds out of necessity for our own two dogs, Xena and Dax and the dog gates where designed and created for a neighbour out of necessity. I say out of necessity because in both cases there was nothing on the market that fit our or our neighbours needs.
Dax’s Deluxe Dog Bed
The Dax’s Deluxe Dog Bed and Xena’s Dog Bed where both designed for mid to large sized dogs whereas most beds on the market are for mid to small sized pooches. Both of our designs can be custom made to fit your needs and both are sturdy enough to hold up to 500lbs – meaning you can climb up on the bed to snuggle your dog – awesome!
Dax’s Dog Bed features a Douglas-fir structure with Purple Heart detailing above the side rails. There is also a corresponding rope trim detail and screw plugs sprayed to match the purplish hue.
Dax’s Deluxe Dog Bed is designed to have its headboard against a wall and looks great with a pillow in front of the headboard, something Dax likes to use. Neither Dax nor Xena enjoy a foam mattress so we decided not to include one with the bed. We use a piece of carpet cut to size so that our pooches don’t get too hot.

Xena’s Dog Bed
Xena’s Dog Bed is designed to have its side up against a wall or human bed. We like to put ours at the base of our bed.
Both Dax’s Deluxe Dog Bed and Xena’s Dog Bed are designed with a 2”x2” frame with centre support that runs beneath the bottom slats tso that the bed is sturdy enough to hold up to 500lbs. The slats are spaced to allow for excellent ventilation.
While our dogs prefer just to have a piece of carpet beneath a sheet, the bed could just as easily be fit with a piece of memory foam or even a down quilt or comforter.
The Xena Dog Bed comes with either South American Purple Heart or American Black Walnut detailing that runs along the bottom of all four side rails. The frame itself is Douglas-fir.

Custom Dog Gates
All the doors in our neighbour’s house are fir so when they decided to fit several of their doorways with dog gates they came to us hoping we could design and build them out of Douglas-fir.
We designed two gates for their doorways. A single dog gate and a Bi-fold dog gate for the larger openings. We designed the gates to sit in front of their pre-existing fir trim so as not to damage it and installed the gates onto their own wall trims.
We designed latches for the dog gates that included Purple Heart detailing.
The bifold dog gates use a full length accordion hinge between the two sections of gate.
Dogs are notorious for pushing open doors and gates and a bifold is too easy, even when the latch is closed. For this reason we designed a solid bar that spans both sections of gate that is easy to put on and just as easy to remove.
The solid bar that holds the two sections of the bifold dog gate in place is pinstriped with Purple Heart to match the custom latch.
