Seaside Cabin with Stepped Concrete Roof by Lund Hagem
Cabin Knapphillet is a tiny holiday home located on the south-east coast of Sandefjord, Norway. Designed by Lund Hagem, the 30sqm Seaside Cabin is positioned next to a large rock face to shelter both the home’s interior and he seaside viewing deck atop the concrete roof that has been designed with a stepped gable for easy access.
The rocky surround and dense vegetation gives this seaside cabin complete privacy so it made sense to completely wrap it in glazings and take advantage of the amazing views.
The stepped roof design starts at ground level making it as much a stairwell as it is a roof.
The seaside cabin is arrived at via a wood pathway that runs through a wooded area.
the path leads to the front of the seaside cabin where an al fresco area and fire pit is located.
A bespoke concrete bench travels from the front deck into the seaside cabin, slicing through the glass wall visually blurring the line between what is inside and what is outside.
The ceiling of the interior is covered in strips of basket woven oak wood for sound absorption.
With space at a premium, an oak box is suspended from the ceiling, hiding the sleeping platform within.
While the oak box looks like a closed container, it is completely open to the water views.
The bathroom is at the end of a hall which begins next to the woodstove at the front of the house.
The hallway has windows on either side of it.
On the outside of the hallway a path under the concrete roof separates the boulders from the glazed exterior wall.
The path leads to the back of the seaside cabin.
The back of the seaside cabin also has a concrete deck.
Front, back or on the roof, the views are amazing.
