The Rachel Denny Domestic Trophies are a menagerie of brightly wall mounted sculptures covered in a very cozy cashmere cable knit as are many of her other sculptures.
Most of the animals Rachel Denny creates are those she sees frequently in her immediate surroundings.
While accurate in depiction, the palette of colours and knitted texture add a fairytale aesthetic to Rachel’s “trophies”.
When Rachel Denny was a child she went on hunting trips with her father and while she never hit anything, the hours of waiting and the seriousness of it all was a little surreal for her and it is this experience that led to her Domestic Trophies.
The knitted taxidermy is a unique merging of both the feminine and the masculine.
The sculptures are made from polyurethane foam, wood, wool, thread and a zipper.
Beauty, elegance, serenity and humour.
Not all of the Rachel Denny sculptures are wall trophies.
This gorgeous creation is not covered in a knitted cable and has the addition of leaves. I think its gorgeous.
While most of the Rachel Denny sculptures are deer, she also depicts other animals.
While most of Rachel’s sculptures are solo designs, this pairing is definitely not.
Rachel Denny is from Beavercreek which is just outside Portland, Oregon.
