Very First Art Show for Dogs by Dominic Wilcox called The Play More Exhibition
Dominic Wilcox curated an interactive 2-day art show that was just for dogs called The Play More Exhibition earlier this year. The show was a fun event for both humans and canines and revolved around everything dogs find irresistible. Each idea was presented as wall art or as a floor installation and included the work of several different artists.
This painting at first glance is a sparsely treed forest but on closer examination those drumstick formed trees look deliciously food like. By Robert Nicol the painting is called Drumstick Park.
The 2-day art show for dogs ran in South London on August 19th and 20th 2016 and I oh so wish we where in London at the time. Maybe it will travel to the west coast of Canada sometime in the near future?
This interactive artwork by Nick White is called Catch and is a multi media installation with an image of a Frisbee travelling back and forth through the screen.
I think this dog thinks the Frisbee went behind the screen.
What dog doesn’t like sticking his or head out a car window to feel the breeze racing through their fur?
Aside from a breeze the fan also wafts out raw meat and old shoe smells – yum, not!
3 of Dominic Wilcox’s own pieces are featured in the art show for dogs, the rest are pieces created by 5 other British artists. This one, called Cruising Canines is one of Wilcox’s.
A smelly car breeze puts a dogs mind at ease.
This installation is called Dinnertime Dreams and is also a Dominic Wilcox creation. Much the same as the ball pools for human kids at restaurants and malls, this one is solely for pooches.
I’m not sure I would take that leap of faith but I know most dogs would go crazy for all those balls!
Doesn’t this remind you of a bowl full of pork and beans?
This little pooch might be over her head if she enters Dinnertime Dreams.
On a more serious note, Dominic Wilcox was commissioned by the More Than insurance company to create the art show for dogs to encourage humans to spend more time interacting with their animal friends.
The 3rd installation by Dominic Wilcox is a series of dog bowls set up to spew forth and catch a series of water jets.
The other artists exhibiting in the art show for dogs are; Nick White, Paul Blow, Clare Mallison, Robert Nicol and Michelle Thompson. Each of the artists worked with a vet to determine the best ways to mentally and physically stimulate us pooches while working with our limited colour palette of greys, yellows and blues.
Inspired by the joke “What is the definition of confusing? A dog in a lamp post factory”, this painting is by Paul Blow.
The black paint swirling around this landscape represents the artist Michelle Thompson’s dog Rozsa as she darts around following a scent.
Joanne Hummel-Newell created a collage of letters with the idea they are coming through a mailbox. That’s enough to drive any dog crazy!
This pooch is checking out Clare Mallsion’s Scent Satisfaction that features a whole array of smelly items
