In February of 2016 Singapore hosted their very first cat themed design show.  Held in conjunction with Singapore Design Week and called “9 Lives”, the show featured urban furniture by 9 designers created specifically for cats.

Grids by Andrew Loh is a customizable cat bed and play station in one. Andrew is a visual artist and industrial designer who created this cat themed furniture out of locally sourced material in order to keep the finished product affordable.

Rodney Loh, also an industrial designer created the multi level Cat Tree to look like a bird cage. The tongue in cheek concept of a cat hanging out in a bird cage adds a little humour to what is also a fun multi perch cat themed furniture design.

Stacking Cats by Wai Liim - who is the founder and director of Trigger Design Studio - is a modular cat tree designed for small spaces. The piece consists of units that connect vertically to easily expand upwards for cats to move climb, look about or rest within.

Sherlynn Low, a furniture and spatial designer and Joel Lim, a product designer created Treo as a way for domestic cats to explore their wild side. The idea was to adopt the outlines of trees into the cat themed furniture while at the same time creating a play space for humans and felines to interact.

Daf Ashari, an interior designer, created a geometric cat themed furniture inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology and more specifically a Goddess named Bastet who just happened to take the form of a cat . Daf’s design is called Bast and it integrates the sacred geometry of the era as well as the colours black and gold to represent the ancient Egyptian glorification of cats as exalted creatures.

Watermeowlon is a cat bed design by Toh Eelaine, an interior designer. Although the cat themed furniture appears to be fruit inspired, it is actually inspired y the iconic Singapore HDB playground series where stray cats regularly frequent.

Intrigued with the idea of animals on roofs, Royston Phang, a freelance design consultant, created A93 as an indoor architectural sanctuary for cats. A flat pack cat themed furniture, it is made of extrusion profiles that have been powder coated black for durability and then accented with copper.

The wood platforms on A93 can be softened up with a cozy blanket, left uncovered, or as in the above photo both giving cats the ability to choose their preference.

The HDB Pop-up Cat Mat by Yun Qin - an industrial designer - opens up into a cat house that has its own scratching surface and hiding areas. The HDB Pop-up Cat Mat can be set up or folded up and stored in a few simple steps making it a purr-fect travel companion for both you and your cat.
