Colwyn Street Master Bath Designed for a Man Who Likes Dark Colours
Our Colwyn Street Master Bath replaced a two person jacuzzi tub with a large walk in shower complete with a flip down Stainless Steel and Teak shower seat, custom fir cabinetry and a Barris mirror featuring Douglas-fir and American Black Walnut pinstripes.
With a love of dark colours, our customer we chose a dark grey slate with white veining as the main tile in the shower area. Centrally, the 3 rows of dark blue glass subway tiles are the same tiles used in the backsplash and top and bottom are two rows of off white slate tiles the soften the change of colour to the ceiling and shower pan,
Installing a wall mounted flip down seat can only be done if the seat can be attached to studs on both sides of the seat so when gutting a bathroom, that is the time to decide on a wall mounted seat because afterwards will be too late.
The off white and the grey slate look porcelain tiles are square, so is the ceiling light, shower drain and shower head.
Two corner glass shelves where mounted through the grout lines rather then installing a shower niche. Shower niches tend to stay wet which is never a good thing, these shower shelves sit slightly away from the wall for easy drainage of water.
Our customer did not want white trim or doors so we suggested using a grey paint that matched the colour of grey caulking.
Across from the shower is the vanity and toilet area. The vanity is custom fitted to an angled wall beside the door.
Both the vanity and the wall mounted cabinet are custom made in our shop with edge grain fir book matched to allow the grain to travel from door to door.
The vanity counter is a laminate chosen to match the colour of the American Black Walnut pinstripes in our Barris mirror which was sized to fit perfectly between the vanity, the vanity light and the wall cabinet.
The Barris mirror is made and finished in our shop.
Our Colwyn project also included redesigning the master closet that acts as a connector from the master bedroom and its ensuite. Originally all of our customers clothes where on display in the closet, they now hide behind a floor to ceiling door system that consists of 3 stacking panels. There is also a recessed dresser created by stealing some space from an extra deep hall closet on the other side.
