The Fluidity Bench by Tianzhu Zhang; How it was Designed and Made
Tianzhu Zhang, an industrial design student started with a computer rendering to design the Fluidity bench, made from wood and concrete, the bench is held together with 3 steel rods.
Tianzhu Zhang used the computer program to map out the flow of lines as they travelled through the wood and concrete.
A simulated stress test was also performed via the computer program.
Once Tianzhu Zhang had the overall look complete, it was time to create the material list of shapes, sizes and numbers.
The plywood for the Fluidity Bench was cut using a CNC machine and held together with 3 steel tubes.
a robotic arm carved out the concrete foam forms using ruled surfaces in such a way as to not appear geometric in its final form.
After the concrete was hardened, it was removed from the mould and attached to the pre-assembled wood slices.
