Okuda x HAROW Skull Armchair; collaboration between Artist and Designer
The iconic skull armchair by HAROW has received a brand new look thanks to the artistic talents of Okuda San Miguel. This collaboration is not surprising since both Okuda San Miguel and HAROW have featured skulls in their designs on more than one occasion.
Both Harrow and Okuda San Miguel have interpreted the skull in their own unique way, HAROW with the skull armchair’s fauceted silhouette, and Okuda San Miguel with strong, vibrant colours.
The combined talents of Okuda San Miguel and HAROW have created a skull armchair that presents a fun street chic appeal.
At the HAROW workshop the skull armchair began as a neutral white with all the standard skull features adjusted to eliminate all the curves and replace them with angular lines for a final faucetted form.
The more intricate details added to the skull armchair where carved and applied by hand.
This is the 5th version of the skull armchair by HAROW . The first was the iconic black skull armchair, followed by the gold skull armchair.
Soon after HAROW created the ruby skull armchair and the camo skull armchair.
This latest version of the HAROW skull chair uses the same skull but ups the vibrancy with its bold use of colour and pattern.
Okuda San Miguel has created the colourful look to this version of the skull armchair with the use of spray cans which is why the final presentation has that intense street chic appeal.
One area that is not brightly painted are the eye sockets but even here, the drama is not lost with Okuda’s signature night sky of the universe peering out at the viewer.
Okuda San Miguel has used the universe as eyes in previous art sculptures such as his Universal Vision of the Sky and his Micky’s Scalp.
Not all of Okuda San Miquel’s art sculptures are versions of skulls, many are of animals as seen here with his Oso and his Smiling King Bear.
The skull armchair collaboration of HAROW and Okuda San Miquel seems like a perfect merging between the two creatives. Both the artist and the designer are clearly represented in this street chic skull armchair.
