Head Hand and Mouth Lamps made from Cast Concrete by CEK
Canadian lighting designer CEK has created these very sculptural head, hand and mouth lamps from concrete and the result is unconventionally awesome. The cast hands and heads have a whimsical quality that is true to CEK’s claim that he likes to “play with concrete”
Head Lamps made from Concrete
The Edison bulb projecting from the concrete cast head was a real light bulb moment for CEK.
Instead of having the traditional bust of Beethoven on top of a piano, the CEK Head Lamp would be a fun replacement.
By changing the style of light bulb, the “thought provoking” imagery is tweaked and the untold story is slightly changed.
Each cast concrete head has a slightly different patina.
Mouth Lamps made from Concrete
Instead of spitting fire, the concrete cast Mouth Lamp is spitting an Edison bulb – how fun.
As with the Edison bulbs projecting from the cast concrete heads, each style of bulb projecting from the mouth “speaks” of a slightly different tale.
The shadows created by the bulb on the cast concrete face make a dramatic statement.
With the lamp chord coming out of the neck, the concrete cast head with mouth light looks a bit like a computer mouse.
Hand Lamps made from Concrete
The concrete cast hand lamps have a more passive ambiance then the head versions.
The concrete cast hand can be turned up or down with the Edison bulb placed between the thumb and fingers after placement.
With the hand turned upward it is as though it is offering the bulb to the viewer. Offering a helping hand in the form of light.
The delicacy of the Edison bulb cradled in the rough patina of the cast concrete hand showcases how opposites attract.
Since concrete is heat safe, the bulb doesn’t burn the hand.
